proper form

I'm not an expert on proper technique for anything, except maybe being a couch potato.  While this appears to be proper free throw form, I wonder if next time he couldn't bend the elbow a little so his aunt with the camera could get this charming face in the shot?  Is there a name for that?

Cooper calls it a "big throw".

For half time, the little girls danced.  Unlike the above photo, she needs to work on her form.

Actually, she did really well, but the times she was dancing she was watching the big girl so I never could see her face.

We woke up to snow this morning.  Guess February is going out with a bang!  Craig's sale was canceled, so hopefully that means I can get some scrapping in.

the Note

I guess this is how it happens.  You get busy with life and jobs and kids and forget to pay attention to what's going on around you.

I realized that today when I received a note from the daughter.

She was not happy about being made to rest in her room.  Ten minutes later she delivers this to me.

The front:

As you can see, it has some heart punches and decorative edges, and the words "I'm not tird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I open it up to find this:

Translation: I love you but the times why I don't get along.  I love you but I don't like it.

Kinda. Sort of.

Wow.  Who knew she could write?  Apparently, she's been paying attention at Kindergarten.  I had no idea she could produce something like this.

So I quizzed her, "Did Grandma help you with this?"

"No.  I sounded it all out myself."

Hmmm.  Good kid.  With an understandable message.  So I folded and let her go watch a movie instead of resting in bed.

A High Note

"Wanna hear my high note?" she asks me today. 

"ok....let's record it so we can compare it to your high note in a few years and see if it's improved.  Oh, and put some clothes on." (says me).

Sorry I don't know how to rotate videos.  I'm YouTube-Stupid.  Someone please teach me.  And, ignore the mumbling at the beginning. Something about her tooth falling out....

Sleeping Over

Avery is staying over at a friend's house for the first time tonight.  This is the daughter of the person who always bawled when she stayed over at other people's houses.  I only puked once, but cried many times. 

Ok...every time.

Not knowing how she would do, I wanted to prepare her in case her naivety was anything near mine.  But, come on...there are many differences at other people's houses that people like me notice.  The smells are different.  The rituals are different.  The sounds....everything.  I just wanted her to be ready.

So in the car, on the way to school this morning I said, "You know, it's okay that people don't always do things the way we do it."

And she replies, in the kindest of voices, "Oh, you mean like other people wash behind their ears and stuff?"

I think she'll be fine.

Happy Birthday No-yan!  Do something wild and wash behind your ears today...assuming you're like us and never do.

1. I just finished watching the video release of this. 

2. I can't believe that I ever posted that (see #1).

3. I'm eating Jell-o right now, and lovin' it.

4. I'm in love with 3-day work weeks.

5. I can't wait to finish Carl Hiaasen's new book, Scat.

6. I love that my 5th graders will so want to read it when I'm done!

7. I seem to love a lot of strange things.

8. I hope Mr. Flannel Pants is feeling better and back to square dancing soon.  :)

Sweet Medication

Gotta love those antibiotics!  This afternoon was the first time since Sunday night that my head didn't throb when I moved.  So glad to get this stupid sinus infection behind me and get on with my life!

Sweet Treats

Ripped from the pages of Family Fun, Avery took the Valentines she made to school today since they're out the rest of the week.  She made the ilove ipods for her classmates....
 
Notice how bright and cheery she is at 6:30 in the morning.  She's so much fun at that time of the day!  I have no idea where she would have inherited that!!

Ok...so the pictures are horrible, but Family Fun has the pieces already made that you can print out.  What she loved about it the most were the chocolate earplugs.  Again, no idea where she could have possibly gotten that from either.
 

On a typical day, I've run 3 miles by 6:00 am and despise chocolate.

Cooper takes treats on Friday, so I'll share them as soon as I have them put together, sometime after my 3 mile jog Friday morning.

Hibernating

Never wake a sleeping 2 year old boy, even if he's just pretending.

Not really sure why he's sleeping on her, but 15 seconds of them getting along is worth it!

100th Day

Kindergartners now celebrate the 100thday of school, which allows them to do all sorts of counting and algorithms and algebra, all whilst still getting in some good ole' coloring time.  Actually, I think Kindergarten teachers must have invented this little celebration because I'm betting they know just how many days are left too!

In Avery's class, the kids were to collect 100 of something and return it in a bag to school.  Of course, my child went for the Cheetos.  Probably because we never have any on hand...

I told her that she was going to have to come up with some way to remember what she had counted. You never know when a Cheeto-snatching bird will break through a window or a brother will sneak through the kitchen!  She decided that she'd group them in fives or tens, which I'm sure they've been practicing at school. 

She asked for a marker to keep track:
 

After she'd gotten through the first six groups, I had a little idea so I told her to go upstairs and get some pajamas on.  I had to work fast....
 

It is so fun watching your kids try and figure stuff out.  Unfortunately, it also means our days of secret-spelling-talk will soon end.

 

Once she figured it out, she wanted to know who did it.  I was busy making muffins with her brother...wasn't me.  Father Dear didn't move out of the chair...wasn't him.  Must have been the Cheetos revolting.  :D 

And, surprisingly, 100 Cheetos really don't look like that many.

X factor

As in, X-haustion.

It just hit me yesterday.

The weather here was GORGEOUS, up to 70 degrees, and I couldn't even go out to enjoy it.  The kids went out to play and I think I relaxed enough that I couldn't even move.  It was like the worst case of "soggy arms, Bert!" I've ever had. 

Thankfully, besides a little nap, I had two things to help me recover.  One, watching Napoleon Dynamite on one of the new digital channels.  Things are never quite as bad as he has it.  :)  And,  two, a super hero coming to my rescue....

 

He's fast....
