Can you smell the puppy breath already??

Janet sent us an updated on our yet-nameless adorable pup:

Oh my gosh, he cuter than fuzz!  I think I'll call him "chocolatepieicecreamsundaehotfudgeM&M"!

Avery is getting excited about the upcoming training sessions, although, I'm not sure who will be getting trained more - her or the dog.  But she's practicing on her brother.

Only 9 more days until she can switch from brother to dog!

It's been one of those days...

A typical Monday.  A day of restless kids and tired me.  A day when nothing seems to go quite right.  A day when this note is quietly delivered to my desk.

     

You ever have those days?

When I get in a funk like this, I like to look at old pictures. 

So join me, won't you?  

Awwww.  Look at those two adorable kiddos.  And that chair.  I swear it either tried to eat me up, fold me in half, or give me rectangular tattoos every time I sat in it. 

Oh, and this guy.  I miss him.  He was like the best dog ever.  He brought me flowers.  :)

And does this not bring back a thousand memories?  The crooked lamp shade.  The curtain that took 6 years to make and get up.  The kid table with a plate of cookies.  That living room with PBS on the TV.  And those two in the wrong seats!  Miss him too. :)

 
Love this picture of the wicked seamstress as a girl.  How did she manage to avoid static hair?  Did she just pass on that genetically and not have the joy of experiencing it herself?

Oh, you know the story on this one.  Third place = sore loser. 

And then this.  I find it utterly amazing that I managed to get through my childhood & adolescence fairly unscathed by all I was surrounded by.  Mostly.

You gotta love cowboys.

Then, just as I'm finishing up this post, I hear "Mom, come here!!"

And there it was....

Darling Family - WischDesigns

I had the privilege of photographing the most darling family the other day. 

Loved getting all of these beautiful ladies in one shot.

Loved getting this one in a shot, period.  Man, she's fast!  :)

And, loved getting this one before he figured out he could make himself go!

Thanks for letting me chase those kiddos around the room!  Your proofs will be up soon.

Meet the newest member of the family....

Meet ..... ,well, we don't really have a name picked out for him yet.

I guess we could call him Couch Potato,

since he was using Avery as a Bark-o-lounger!

Or maybe Foo-Foo,

since he's playing the part of lap dog with Cooper.

We have a wait a few more weeks to bring him home, so we'll keep working on a name until then.

Any ideas?

Camouflage

It was a gorgeous day in Northeast Kansas. 

Too nice not to go outside and do some much needed yard work.

I was cleaning up the day lilies when something caught my eye.

Do you see it?

Do you see him?  Assuming that all little green frogs are "hims".

There he is!

Nice little place to be spending the afternoon, I'd say.

Cooper Fireman

This is a fire truck.  Take note of that combination of pipes, valves, and nozzles on the front.  Otherwise, this will make no sense to you.  I like to be upfront with stuff.  You know?



This is my child running the controls for the spray on the front of the fire truck.  He was so busy maneuvering it, he couldn't even look at me!  I'm not sure Wesley realized the monster he was creating by showing Cooper how to do that.



This is my child explaining what he had done in the parade.  Please forgive his poor memory...I'm sure it was all the excitement.



And then this is what he did.  Because even fire trucks need their rest.

Ten Things I Love

Sorry for the delay.  I've been busy.  As you'll see....

1. I love having the opportunity to be creative.

2. I love painting backwards on glass.

3. Being done with painting.  Although, I do not love running out of wallpaper before the wall is completely covered.

But, I digress.  This post is about loving.

4. I love having people help me that know what they're doing.

Look at Paul Pierre notching out that whatever-you-call it board!  And Saggy helped paint, wallpaper, and keep me on an even keel over all.  Thanks.  :)

5. I love dressing rooms with little black doors.  And I love Rose Berry, the color.

6.  I love learning what wainscoting means.

7.  I love damask, as long as I don't have to figure out how to sew it.

8.  I love Rose Berry sandwiched between wainscot paneling and black and white damask.

9. I love little chairs waiting for little people.

10.  I love having a place where I can capture people at their best.

So, yes, I have a studio in downtown Horton.  No, I am not quitting teaching.  But I wanted to try this for indoor shots.  I can use it for the rest of the summer, and then nights and weekends.

Where did that come from?

Sometimes, us parents miss those little things that brothers and sisters do to each other to push their buttons.  All we hear is the aftermath of whatever happened. 

We have our preconceived notions of our children's personalities, and we probably have a pretty good idea of who actually did what. 

With that said....

I thought it was interesting when I downloaded some clips off Avery's camera.  She is a sweet child.  She loves her family, and even her brother.  But in the past few months, she has really been antagonizing him.  How do I know that?

Watch.  And listen.  And learn.



Now, tell me:  Where did that come from?

We had a fun Fourth!  Found a fish, felt the rain, watched some fireworks, and hung out with family! 

And THANK YOU to all the servicemen & women who have, are, or will be fighting for our freedom.  You are in my prayers.  Independence Day would not be, without you.

After cleaning up the aftermath of hurried food preparations from yesterday, I found my sweet boy had not only picked up his crayons, but that he had put them away like this:
